Skateboarding in the Soviet Union?

Daniil Victorevich Avatar

I was 12 years old when I stepped onto a skateboard for the first time. Skateboards are not very common in the Soviet Union. In fact, mine was imported from the UK. Just like with the Nintendo, I was the only one of my peers who owned one. Four years later, and that’s still the case.

So, how does one learn how to ride a skateboard in a country where they’re practically banned?

I had a bit of help from a friend, a guy I don’t really wanna say much about.

He’s the one who gave me the skateboard, and hooked me up with more valuable cars to distribute to our clients. As much trouble as he caused me back in 1983, I’m still grateful.
